Following on from Jeremy Frith taking the role of director of cricket, he will be joined on the committee responsible for choosing the senior island team by his former Guernsey teammates Stuart Le Prevost, who will be chairman, and Gary Rich. Both Cobo stalwarts made 64 appearances for Guernsey in official competition.

The five-strong panel are completed by Rob Thomson and Guernsey men’s captain Josh Butler.

‘The aim of the new selection committee is to ensure that the most fit-for-purpose and well-prepared squad is selected for each Guernsey fixture, with good common sense and communication the key to ensuring Guernsey cricket moves forward positively,’ said a GCB statement.

‘The committee has already started engaging with all local club cricketers in order to set out the opportunities available to all, and for current and prospective island players to tailor their preparations accordingly.’

Frith and GCB chief executive Mark Latter had already revealed that the island sides will have a more comprehensive fixtures programme awaiting them this summer, with the men’s squad playing the Hampshire Academy next month and the MCC in May as well as having a trip to the Netherlands in August to go alongside the T20I and 50-over inter-insulars in July and September respectively.

There will also be the reintroduction of both the GPL and the Channel Islands League.
