The Greens ended a 16-year wait for a Muratti win in Jersey but captain Candice Bougourd said it would be ‘even more special’ to lift the trophy at the island’s new home of football.
‘Last year at Springfield it was really special, but to be able to do it in front of a home crowd with our family and friends there watching will be even more special, so fingers crossed,’ she said.
‘I think there’s definitely more pressure this year because in previous times there has been no expectation – we hadn’t won it in 16 years, so having won the last one then there is a little bit more pressure but hopefully we’ll fly under that pressure.’
Since the last Muratti the group has had the chance to play more competitive football with Guernsey FC playing in - and winning - the Jersey Combination League Women’s Division and more recently two matches in the Isle of Wight in representative friendlies.
‘I think it’s really helped, we’ve never had quite so much football, so having regular fixtures in Jersey and having couple of UK fixtures with Guernsey FC, has been beneficial,’ said Bougourd.
‘We have also had some with the Guernsey representative team, we went to the Isle of Wight and played a couple of games over there. It was really good, we played two games and we took quite a big squad and we tried some different things and just got some more confidence going into this week’s game.’
