After a final push to achieve qualifying times by the end of last year, 10 men and the same number of women have made the cut for the big occasion of Orkney 2025.

The team, which also includes 10 returning swimmers from Guernsey 2023, was decided by the Guernsey Amateur Swimming Association in conjunction with both local clubs.

‘The 2025 team is very competitive and comparing their times to the results from the previous Games, we are in a strong position to make finals and have a good chance of collecting medals across the board,’ said new Gasa president Conor Osborough.

‘We know that those gaining selection will focus 100% on their training in the lead up to the Games and will pull out all the stops to improve on their personal best times.’

Guernsey Swimming Club star Chloe Bown is one of the three women debuting, alongside Tallulah-Mae Rautenbach and Elodie Riley.

Meanwhile, president Osborough makes his own Games bow alongside fellow pool veteran James Dickinson, but the five other men’s newcomers are very young, these being Sam Cann, Spike Jinks, Cameron Lee, Zach Maiden and Cooper Robinson.

The competition at the Pickaquoy Centre will be highly charged, with morning heats and evening finals. Guernsey go in having won 32 swimming medals at the 2023 home Games.

‘The finals in the evening will end each day with relay events which are a huge crowd-pleaser, and we know from the results of previous Games that our Guernsey teams will rise to the occasion and will never disappoint,’ Osborough added.

‘This will be a great occasion for Guernsey swimmers, as we see a blend of experienced swimmers and exciting newcomers ready to represent the island at the Games. Our debutants are talented and determined to make a statement, while our more seasoned swimmers will be working hard to improve on previous successes.’
