The Commonwealth Games long-hurdles medallist for Guernsey led off GB’s mixed 4x400m team at the Apeldoorn 2025 European Indoor Championships, setting them up for bronze.

Chalmers ran a 47.20 at the Omnisport arena and handed off fourth to Emily Newnham, who lifted them into the top three.

Josh Faulds powered on and largely maintained second, but at the changeover there was very little between the top four teams.

Anchorwoman Lina Nielsen ran strongly to secure bronze.

The Netherlands triumphed in 3-15.63, followed closely by Belgium’s 3-16.19 and GB’s 3-16.49.

‘Really proud feeling to start the year off and the competition off with a medal,’ Chalmers said.

‘I think the team’s really strong this year, really good depth, and coming into this we were really pushing for that medal.

‘Everybody really pulled through individually and the atmosphere was beautiful.’

GB go again in tomorrow’s men’s 4x400m at 5.24pm GMT.
