Attack will be best form of defence at Binfield

Guernsey FC hope their X-factor attack comes out on top against an anticipated aerial bombardment this afternoon.

The Green Lions head to Binfield on the latest stop on their quest for Isthmian South Central survival and manager Tony Vance knows exactly what kind of threat they will come up against, although depleted resources mean it will be hard to repel.

‘Probably our biggest concern is the lack of defenders available to us and we are facing a team with the longest throw in the league,’ said Vance, who is unable to call upon either Jacob Fallaize or Ben Solway while there are fitness doubts over Tom Vaudin and the manager’s son Seb.

‘It is going to be a very ugly game, which is not ideal for us, and not having someone like Jacob, Solly or possibly Vauds will be difficult, but we are getting ready for that.

‘What we have to try to do is outscore them and the real positive is our attacking play has been really good recently. We have been aggressive and on the front foot, so let’s go to Binfield and let them worry about us.’

Both Fallaize and Solway should be available for GFC’s last home game of the season on Easter Monday when Kingstonian visit Footes Lane, but they really need to get something at Binfield to keep their survivial hopes alive.

With three games to play, the Green Lions are three points from safety, but their inferior goal difference makes the gap virtually four points.

However, their own form has improved of late. They are unbeaten in their last four and are coming off the back of last Sunday’s fine win over Southall.

‘It was a good result last week and we have had a good return of points of late,’ Vance said.

‘If we do not get anything on Saturday, a little bit of the good work will be undone. We are also going to have one eye on other results because we have to.

‘I am looking at these last three games as a chunk from which we want to get as many points as we can and if we get something at Binfield then we can go into the next two knowing we’ve got a chance.

‘Everyone had written us off and I think the players need to be rewarded for the last few weeks. When you are written off, it can affect you in different ways, but they have responded really well.’
