The Guernsey Swimming Club star rewrote the local record books over a very successful weekend at Ponds Forge in Sheffield, where he was representing Plymouth College in the Swim England National Winter Championships 2025 to round off the short-course season.
Breaststroke specialist Hallett made all the A finals in the discipline, starting with his sensational 100m on day one.
He gave notice of his form in the morning heats as he took 0.06sec. off the previous Island record which has been set by his younger brother Ronny, clocking 1min. 00.15sec. to go into the final in eighth place.
Hallett came back in the evening session and swum a fantastic final, finishing fifth in a very competitive field and was thrilled to see his outstanding time of 59.43sec.
The meet got better for the 24-year-old the following day in the 200m.
He clocked another personal best of 2-12.62 to break his own Island record in the heats, which again took him into the final in eighth place.
When he returned for the evening final, he slashed his time once again with an excellent 2-11.21 to take a creditable sixth place.
Hallett went on to compete in the 50 breast, swimming 27.35 in the heats and 27.27 – just 0.1sec. outside of his Island mark – in a tightly-contested final to finish eighth.
He also swam in the breaststroke leg of the mixed 200 medley relay splitting a time of 27.03.
Brother Ronny Hallett also attended the meet having had limited race practice during the early season due to illness and injury, but he did very well to post a good enough time of 28.22 to reach the men’s B final in the 50 breast where he came fourth, bettering his time to 28.04.
Ronny also swam the 50 free and took part in the mixed 200 freestyle relay.
Both Halletts have much to look forward to going into the long-course season in the new year in preparation for Commonwealth Games next July.
