Guernsey’s convincing 21-12 success over Sevenoaks was based on a flying start which saw Ethan Smith score two converted tries inside the opening quarter-of-an-hour before Tom Ceillam added a third after the interval. The two subsequent tries for the visitors proved just consolation scores.
‘We wanted to get the win today, and we did, and I think for probably 55 minutes, we were the most dominant side,’ said Raiders head coach Jordan Reynolds.
‘I don’t think Sevenoaks were dominant through that second half, I think we just got penalised off the park and that’s our fault – our guys kept talking to the referee and trying to change his mind – but I think that then stopped our momentum and it was hard to get back into the game after that.
‘But what I did enjoy in the second half, was our defensive effort was unreal. So if we want to build for games coming up – we’ve got Westcombe Park away and then Havant back home – I think those defensive sets that we did will give us a lot of encouragement.’
