The tie, which has been rearranged multiple times, is finally set to go ahead at the Track and Le Friec is hoping his side can match the standards they reached at in the top flight at the weekend.
‘If we can match our levels and progress that would be terrific,’ he said.
Le Friec’s side drew 4-4 with reigning champions and current league leaders St Martin’s at Blanche Pierre Lane in an entertaining game where they just missed out on claiming all three points in the final minute.
‘We were battered [9-0 by Sylvans] the week before, so this was an opportunity for us to bounce back,’ he said.
‘I said before the game that we didn’t want to embarrass ourselves again – that’s the nice way of putting it.’
Dom Heaume put Saints ahead early on but Bels were quickly back on level terms.
‘It was a slight mistake from us for their first goal, but we equalised about five minutes after, Zak Chatterton turned in a corner,’ said Le Friec.
‘Saints had more chances but we had better chances, we were defending a lot of corners and our half-time message was just more of the same.
‘The second half was messy, no one took control, it was stop-start for fouls, stop-start for throws until the last 10 minutes and it just exploded.’
Louis Pang put Bels ahead, but it was not long until the scoreline was back level.
Saints then took the lead before Pang equalised.
He completed his hat-trick deep into stoppage time before Saints fought back and snatched a draw with the final attack of the game from a free-kick.
St Martin’s benefited from an own goal, with Glenn Le Tissier and Chris Le Noury scoring their other late goals.
Le Friec said that it was a bittersweet result for his side who had been so close to winning it.
‘It was a weird one because we went into the dressing room and the lads were like, why does this feel like Sylvans last week? We should have been celebrating a draw as every point matters to us, but it was so close to the end.
‘We’re mixing it with the reigning champions and the leaders, we just need to be consistent.’
Bels’ second-round cup tie against Elizabeth College kicks off at 7.30pm tonight at the Track and at the same time St Martin’s Reserves face Northerners in the quarter-finals of the same competition at Blanche Pierre Lane.
Tomorrow night St Martin’s will face Guernsey FC Development in the semi-finals of the Jeremie Cup at Victoria Park. Kick off is 7.45pm.
There is also a Priaulx League clash tomorrow as Vale Rec host Rovers at the Corbet Field at 7.30pm.
