Leon Meakin’s U18s will travel to Jersey tomorrow for the inter-island clash with the hopes of bringing home the silverware for the first time since 2023, after two dominant wins from Jersey in 2024 and 2025.
‘We’re looking forward to it,’ said Meakin.
‘We’ve had a good build up, we have named our squad and are very happy with it. It’s a strong squad, it was very difficult to pick.’
Meakin’s squad features a mixture of players who were involved last year as well as some new faces, who the Guernsey manager said have impressed in training.
‘We’ve got a good balance with players who were involved last year and some who have come in and shone in training.
'We have a couple of 16-year-olds, we have Oskar Cleal and Alfie Torode who has done well and made his debut for GFC,’ he said.
‘We’ve also got Aston Young available. He’s played a few games for us, but is based in the UK so we’re happy he’s available.’
This season the U18s have had some off-island fixtures as well as Stranger Cup matches to prepare for the Muratti, as well as opportunities for the players with Guernsey FC Development, which Meakin also manages.
‘It’s been brilliant having them running side-by-side for the season,’ said Meakin.
‘It’s given us more training sessions and a larger training squad, so it’s given everyone that opportunity and there is competition for places.
‘We have had a good run of games and I feel like we are ready to go now.’
Tomorrow’s U18 Muratti kicks off at 1pm at Springfield.
