The chocolate-and-blues retained the Offshore Group Guernsey FA Cup after beating St Martin’s 4-2 on penalties in Tuesday night’s final at Victoria Park.

North came back from behind twice in the closely-fought contest, which ended 3-3 after extra-time.

‘The end of the season’s been brilliant, and this is probably a perfect ending to the perfect season,’ said North head coach Charlie Le Prevost.

‘We did alright in phases, to be fair. It was a pretty even game, a bit scrappy at times, but in the end it came down to being more clinical in the key moments and we had a bit of momentum when it came to penalties so I think that’s probably helped us.’

It was an even start to the game with a few chances for both sides.

North hit the crossbar early on, though their own goalkeeper Ollie Miller was forced into a save to deny Saints’ Nigel Hutton minutes later.

Max Wall in the Saints goal was called into action a few times too, collecting a North free-kick 15 minutes in.

One of the best chances of the half was for Sam Hall who curled a free-kick towards the top corner but Miller made a great stop to deny him.

Minutes later North had a free-kick whipped into the six-yard box by Ryan Lamb, and after a bit of a goalmouth scramble St Martin’s defence managed to clear the danger.

St Martin’s started the second half well and took the lead in the 52nd minute through George Goubert, who intercepted a loose pass and worked his way into the area before producing an excellent finish into the top corner.

Minutes later Alex Roussel forced Miller into another good save as he struck from distance with Miller reaching to tip his effort over the bar.

St Martin’s lead did not last long though as 15 minutes after their opener, prolific North striker Keene Domaille fired into the roof of the net.

North's tails were up, and Domaille engineered another chance but this time could only find the side-netting.

North captain River Marsh, who was in loads of space, tried to find a winner with a shot across the face of the goal but his effort was just wide of the far post.

St Martin’s had a great spell of dominance in the first half of extra-time. Hall restored the lead within the first 60 seconds, and then his inswinging corner caused chaos in the box and was scrambled home.

Following a lengthy stoppage Domaille produced a great finish for his and North's second goal, past Wall who was well off his line. But it looked as though it might all come to nothing for the league champions until, in the final moments of extra-time Harry Tough grabbed the equaliser to take the game to penalties.

‘For the whole season everyone has played their part, but Toughy came on today and scored the goal to take us to pens, so it’s been a squad game, everyone’s played their part,’ said Le Prevost.

Domaille failed from the spot this time, but Liam Mahon, Tough and Simon Marley all scored for North. Glenn Le Tissier and Hutton both found the back of the net, but Miller denied Roussel and Hall blazed his kick over the crossbar.

‘I’m a bit of a nervous wreck after that, but some finish to a game,’ said Le Prevost.
