The 42-year-old, who was runner-up to Jeremy Nicolle in the Island Men's Championship last month, claimed the Guernsey strokeplay title with a nine-under-par aggregate of 271 following excellent rounds of 67, 69, 67 and 68 to finish two shots clear of Lewis Marley.

‘I always sort of focus on our so-called “majors” – this one, our 36-holers, Club Championships – they’re always the ones that you try and aim to win throughout the year,' said Blondel.

‘So there was definitely disappointment after the Island final. It’s difficult enough to get there and then you don’t want to let them slip, but Jez played great on the day.

‘So it’s nice, this only being three or four weeks later, to come in in good form and to score the way I did was really pleasing.’

Junior Gus Carre won the biggest title of his career so far as he lifted the UV Trophy, coming out on top of the handicap standings with a 72-hole nett total of 270. He carded rounds of 68, 65, 64 and 73.

‘My first round was really good, so that put some confidence into me for the second round. Then also had a good second round as well and also followed up with a good third round,' said the teenager.

‘In the final round, that’s when the pressure hit me. But then I was fighting and fighting every hole and I just managed to win it by two shots.’

Dee Relph was the winner of the concurrent Stableford competition, playing three of the four rounds under par for a total of 146 points off her handicap of 19.
