Both Giga chairman Chris Jackson and team manager Karen Buck-Archenoul will be in the Faroe Islands with other delegates as the countdown to the 2027 Games – which run from 3-9 July – approaches one year.
Their trip incorporates both the official pre-visit and International Island Games Association annual general meeting.
Archenoul is ‘really excited’ to find out about next year’s event.
‘We plan to visit accommodation, we’ll be visiting all of the venues, and finding out about how they’re going to transport all of our athletes, managers and coaches around the island, about their medical facilities,’ she said.
‘And also this will be our kickstart for finding out about our travel to the Faroes Island Games next year and what the best way will be for us.
‘We’re currently at around 280 competitors and managers going, so our team is going to be huge, so this is going to be no mean feat to get everyone out there safely next year.’
The Kingdom of Denmark archipelago sits much further north than any previous host island, beyond Orkney and Gotland.
This location alone will present challenges to travellers – being projected to be a particularly expensive Games to attend – and so will the climate, being well-known for fog and with July temperatures averaging around 11C. The triathlon has already been confirmed to feature a pool rather than sea swim.
