Skipper Ed Robinson led the way for the Greens, taking a wicket with the second delivery of the match on his way to a four-for before providing the assured presence at the top of the order in the run chase, but it was far from a one-man show.
Five of the other bowlers claimed at least one scalp – and in Freddie Forshaw’s case he deserved more as he had the Belgian batters in knots with his leg spin – and Alfie Gallienne continued to make the most of his opportunity to bat at number three, having taken over the role in the ICC Festival in Taunton following the unfortunate injury to Barnabas Smith.
Having removed opposing captain Jay Raval without a run on the board, Guernsey were in command for much of the day.
Robinson added the wicket of Parv Desai in his second over while his new-ball partner Mattie Collivet joined the party by dismissing Shaurya Shah to reduce Belgium to 25 for 3.
A fourth-wicket stand of 31 between Zia Mamond and Akshat Tripathi proved to be the highest of the innings before the opener fell to the slow left-arm of Gallienne, stumped by wicketkeeper Oscar Lewis for a top-score of 22, and a brief flurry of three wickets in five overs with two taken by Barney Groves and the other by Oscar Martin meant that the visitors were seven down before reaching triple figures.
Forshaw eventually got a much-merited victim when Hasaan Majid played a cut shot straight into the hands of Will Verdellis at point before Robinson finished things off in the 42nd over.
With Guernsey having to face 10 overs before the official lunch break, the skipper added 27 for the first wicket with Lewis before the latter departed for seven.
Gallienne then joined Robinson and they added 111 for the second wicket, taking the Sarnians to the brink of victory.
Having made 83 from 78 balls with seven fours and four sixes, the skipper was caught off the bowling of Christopher Weinel with his side just four runs short of their target, leaving Gallienne and Forshaw to sew up the win.
