Right up until the 90th minute at the Track on Tuesday the scores were level, but with the final touch of the game the Westerners bundled the ball over the line to reach the final of the pre-season competition where they will face holders St Martin’s.
It was a good contest between the two sides with both having some decent chances early on.
Tiago Rodrigues delivered a great free-kick into the area which ricocheted around before being headed wide by Kyle Smith inside the first 10 minutes before Seb Skillen’s free-kick was met by Jacques Wilcox whose shot was blocked.
Shortly after Skillen was in action again, this time to set up Pearce Le Poidevin, but his effort lacked power and looked fairly easy for Sylvans goalkeeper Nick Batiste to collect.
In the 20th minute Sylvans took the lead through summer signing Luke Ogier, who scored from close range.
Not long after Skillen went close as his free-kick narrowly missed the top corner.
On 55min. a superb strike from Skillen across Batiste found the bottom corner and the scores were level.
Rec then had a great chance to take the lead through Jack Silvester whose long range effort hit the crossbar in the 68th minute.
It continued to be a competitive match with Zach Gilman forcing Jason Martin into a great save up the other end of the pitch a minute later. The Vale Rec goalkeeper got a hand to Gilman’s strike to push it wide of the post.
Shortly after a long-range effort from Tyrese Kelly narrowly cleared the bar.
It looked as though the match was destined to end in the same way as the previous evening's semi-final, but penalties were not required this time to decide who would take on Saints in the final as with just seconds remaining the ball was scrambled in with Oscar Leadbeater appearing to have made the decisive touch.
