Guernsey’s representative netballers will be opening their 2026-27 campaign with an away double-bill against a Real Bedford outfit that they beat in one of their two contests last season.
Captain Charlotte Hill expects Bedford to present a more youthful side this time around, but she still hopes to benefit from last season’s experience against them.
‘It’s quite good for us to go into the weekend with an understanding of who this team are,’ she said.
The captain is enjoying being part of a large and enthusiastic, performance-focused group coached by new development officer Naomi Szmierek.
‘It’s looking good on court,’ she said.
‘Everyone is really excited to see how far we can push ourselves and far we can be pushed.
‘We have got a great unit of girls and a lot training, maybe 20 girls or more... it’s great to have really good numbers and everyone’s working really hard.’
The otherwise familiar squad includes the addition of tall defender Allegra Slater, who is new to the island.
Overall, Hill hopes they can build on their maiden season in this development-focused league, putting them in good stead for next year’s south regional qualifiers.
‘We had some games which were great and some where we learned a lot,’ she added in reference to last season.
‘We really want to use this season so by the time we get to qualifiers we are really consistent and can really withstand the physicality of the league and UK opponents.’
