Within 10 minutes the Bournemouth midfielder had been involved in England’s opening goal and the performance only got better from there, before he was withdrawn after 70 minutes.
‘No better feeling,’ he told ITV Football after the game. ‘First start and to start with a win like that is amazing. The quality in this squad – you could see from the first minute, the lads we’ve got in the front line, they’re pretty deadly.’
Scott was in direct opposition to veteran midfielder Luka Modric, who used to play for Tottenham Hotspur, the team Scott supported as a youngster.
‘It’s pretty surreal, one of my favourite players growing up, and to be on the same pitch and competing with him was a great honour.’
