The 102m state-of-the-art Austal trimaran is currently undergoing a major fit-out in Poole by interior specialists Trimline ahead of its first sailing on 27 March.

It was bought after the ferry operator secured a long-term operating deal with Guernsey and Jersey.

Work is on schedule and the new facilities inside, including a modern galley, children's play area and a lounge with panoramic views, are taking shape.

Passengers will also have a choice of three seating areas – Ocean Traveller, Ocean Plus and Ocean Club.

Captain Fran Collins, pictured, who is also executive director of operations, said passengers would notice a big difference compared to the ageing 86m. catamarans that were used on the cross-Channel routes and which were sold last month.

'She is very manoeuvrable and much more stable so once on-board the ride will be a lot smoother,' Capt. Collins said.

'She is a conventional ship, so she is much more capable of travelling in bad weather conditions compared to our other ferries.'
