Sir Graham served the island for 17 years as a full-time judge, 10 years as Deputy Bailiff and seven as Bailiff.

The current Bailiff, Sir Richard Collas, said as a judge he was always fair-minded and listened to counsel with great patience and tolerance.

'His strength of spirit was often masked by a warm and kindly manner which made him popular with islanders when he was Bailiff.

'He was a man of the highest integrity, which is always the first quality to look for in a judge and a Bailiff. I remember him as a gentle man and a true gentleman – in every sense of the word – who loved the island and island life.'
