NEW homes at Fort Richmond will be added to the open market register, if States members agree.

Treasury and Resources has proposed that, once sold and converted, the site should be listed on Part A of the housing register.

This would reduce the limitations on the number of potential buyers and increase the sale price, it said.

'When sold, the property would still be protected from inappropriate or unsympathetic development by its classification as a protected monument and a protected building,' it added.

'The States of Guernsey would divest itself of responsibility for maintenance and repair and the new owner would acquire a special property in a prominent coastal setting and have the opportunity to develop a unique dwelling on the site.'
