Former England player offers advice to youngsters

YOUNGSTERS on the Prince's Trust Programme have been learning about the dedication and commitment it requires to play football for England from somebody with first-hand experience.

With 57 England caps to his name, Gareth Southgate also played for Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Middlesbrough, which he went on to manage.

He is now England U21s manager and his visit, with England U18s coach Neil Dewsnip, was sponsored by Providence.

The Prince's Trust Programme is a 12-week personal development course that is run in conjunction with the Youth Commission. The latest intake is a group with ages ranging from 16 to 25 who have various backgrounds and needs.

'Hopefully, the scheme in particular shows the youngsters that people care about them,' said Mr Southgate.
