Victoria McKenzie has nominated her daughter, Jessica, for Young Achiever of the Year.

'As foster parents, our time has a lot of demand on it,' Mrs McKenzie said.

'Jessica is my spare hands – her time, her patience, compassion and empathy are unsurpassed.

'Little children find it easy to approach her when they first come to us and she is heartbroken when they leave,' Mrs McKenzie said.

When putting her daughter forward for the Butterfield-sponsored award, she said

that 17-year-old Jessica also excels academically, plays netball and does Irish dancing.

'She is a wonderful girl with a huge heart and a great future ahead of her.

'Her dad and I are extremely proud. She is sometimes forgotten or misses out, but she is a rock.

'She is off to university next year and she will be sorely missed,' Mrs McKenzie said.

The nomination period for all 12 Pride of Guernsey Awards remains open until 30 June. Forms appear in paper or visit our dedicated sister website www.prideofguernsey.com/nominate
