Pride of Guernsey: 'The sun always shines at Pembroke's slipway kiosk'

THE sun shines at Pembroke's slipway kiosk no matter what the weather is doing, according to a Vale parish constable.

The quality of the greeting and the helpful nature of Lynn de Carteret, who owns the business jointly with husband Gary, led to Bill Cohu nominating her for the Welcome Award, sponsored by RefCo.

'Lynn is a great businesswoman but above all she's made it her business to provide the best, and the most, that she can for her customers,' he said.

Mrs de Carteret has tenaciously fought to retain a traditional part of the Guernsey seaside, namely the little green hut at Pembroke.

The establishment was big on customer service and giving value for money, he added.

'It's an Aladdin's cave of extras including books, sun hats, deckchairs, maps and even swimwear should you forget yours.

'You can rely on getting good service, a smile and a ready conversation.

'Advice is always at hand for visitors needing directions and there's even carpet on the ground to spare bare feet from the stony floor.

'Whatever the weather, you get a little sunshine at Pembroke Kiosk,' said Mr Cohu.

The nomination period for all 12 Pride of Guernsey Awards remains open until 30 June. Forms appear in paper or visit our dedicated sister website www.prideofguernsey.com/nominate
