FOSTER carers who go above and beyond for not only the children they look after, but also their three daughters, have been described as an inspiration.

Seeing the difference her parents made to the lives of seven children they fostered prompted 17-year-old Jessica McKenzie to nominate Victoria, 38, and Mark, 47, McKenzie for the Parent/s of the Year Award, sponsored by The Christies Group.

'I believe my mum and dad deserve the award because they both go above and beyond,' she said.

'Not only are they parents to their own children, they foster as well.

'They give them a safe, welcoming and loving place to stay and give them opportunities that they otherwise might not have had.'

Victoria and Mark are short-term foster carers and Jessica said it was clear how much fostering meant to them.

'I don't appreciate them as much as I should do, so I wanted to nominate them to show how much they mean to us all.'
