Pride of Guernsey: 'fantastic neighbours'
AFTER helping their next-door neighbours through a difficult period due to health complications, Milton and Jean Carre have been nominated for the Swoffers-sponsored Pride of Guernsey Neighbour of the Year award.
Neighbours Nigel and Sue Ozanne went through a challenging winter, with Nigel unable to drive because he was having investigations done on his heart and Sue had an accident which unfortunately resulted in a hip fracture.
In addition, the couple live with and support Sue's 95-year-old mother, who is disabled.
The Carres came to their aid on numerous occasions and in a variety of ways.
Mrs Ozanne said she was amazed that they had time to help, considering all the charitable work they also do.
'Milton and Jean not only work for charity the Tumaini Fund, but they have found the time to keep an eye on us as next-door neighbours,' she said.
'During the last few months they have made us meals, even catching and cooking us ormers.
'They have taken us on appointments and waited around for us, sat with us and offered to be on call during the night, and they are fantastic neighbours in the good times too.'
Mr Carre was self-effacing about his and his wife's contribution.
'It's nothing out of the ordinary, I'm sure people do things like this every day, year in, year out,' he said.
'I'm sure people all over the island do the same.'
