He has served as head of music at the college, but has now stepped down from this position but continues in his role as a maths teacher.
Nominating him for the Garenne-sponsored award, 16-year-old Lauren Prince said that even though he does not teach music any more, he was still willing to help his pupils with exam preparation.
'I am incredibly thankful to Mr Claxton for everything he has done for me and my older sisters,' she said.
Mr Claxton was also praised for his teaching of mathematics as another student, Maya George, put him forward for Teacher of the Year.
She said he deserved not just the award but recognition for his kindness and encouragement within a subject she found incredibly difficult.
'Mr Claxton is such a positive and encouraging maths teacher who never fails to make maths as enjoyable as it can be – which is a very hard job,' she said.
Maya added that Mr Claxton was aware if she did not understand the work and was always there to boost her confidence.
