But she is also a teacher who does not let people mess around in class and distract those trying to work.

Lily, 17, who is now studying at the Sixth Form Centre, said she had always struggled at English and did not have the confidence in the subject in her earlier school life, but under the guidance of Mrs Clark her confidence grew. It enabled her to secure a GCSE C grade in English language and literature.

'She was the best English teacher who empowered me to achieve my full potential,' she said.

'She allowed me to be more confident in myself and believe in myself, too, without ever doubting me.'

Lily said it was with all the encouragement and support of Mrs Clark that she managed to secure her GCSE in English language and literature.

It is for these reasons and more that Mrs Clark would be a worthy winner of the Garenne-sponsored Teacher of the Year Award.
