Mrs Banks is a teacher of psychology and sociology at the Grammar School and Sixth Form Centre and also holds the position of mental health coordinator.

She was actually the individual at the school who brought forward the initiative of having a mental health coordinator position and her efforts in this area make her a shining example.

Her nominator for the Garenne-sponsored Teacher of the Year Award said Mrs Banks had really strived to make sure the mental health of all her students was the best possible and she had made the school aware that it was a priority to always help to improve this.

She was also praised for her innovative approach and helpful attitude, plus her commitment to improving the lives of the pupils around her.

'She is a teacher who really deserves to be recognised for her efforts,' said her nominator.
