Tributes to Seigneur of Sark who dies aged 88
TRIBUTES were continuing to be paid made this morning following the unexpected death of Seigneur of Sark Michael Beaumont at the weekend.
The Seneschal of Sark announced the news that Mr Beaumont had died unexpectedly at his home in Sark yesterday morning.
He was 88 years old.
Jeremy La Trobe-Bateman said: 'It is with deep sorrow that I announce the death of the Seigneur of Sark, John Michael Beaumont, OBE, peacefully at home at La Petite Seigneurie, Sark.
'Mr Beaumont leaves behind his wife, Diana, and sons Christopher and Anthony and I extend our deep-felt condolences on behalf of the people of Sark to them and the wider family.'
Mr Beaumont was the 22nd Seigneur and had held the position since inheriting it from his grandmother Dame Sybil Hathaway in 1974. He was awarded the OBE in 2001.
His son, Major Christopher Beaumont, succeeds him Mr Beaumont as Seigneur.
Lt-Governor Vice-Admiral Sir Ian Corder said that he and Lady Corder were extremely sorry to hear the sad news and expressed their deepest sympathies for Diana and the family.
