George McLellan was nominated for the Butterfield-sponsored award by the Guernsey Rugby Academy.

'George is one of the most unassuming players the Rugby Academy has at U16 level,' it said in its nomination.

'He puts nothing less than 100% into every training session and game.'

It said he was one of the most dedicated and determined players.

However, what few people see are his coaching abilities, even though he is still not old enough to hold a formal rugby coaching qualification, it explained.

'George supports the coaches with the Academy U9s like he is a seasoned coach.

'His sheer enthusiasm, great eye for detail and great communication skills means he is able to get his point across

in a way an U9 understands.

'This great and selfless support has seen the squad win their junior Siam age group in 2016.'

It said that George needs no 'prodding' to get out of bed at 8.30am on a Sunday and is there on time to set up before the players and some of the coaches arrive.
