Pride of Guernsey: 'an amazing and inspiring woman'
A LADIES' College teacher who is head of the school's sixth form centre and psychology department still finds time to support her pupils on a personal level, said the sixth- form students who nominated her for the Garenne-sponsored Teacher of the Year Award.
Dr Vanessa Mitchell has been described as 'an amazing and inspiring woman' by her students, who said she always found the time to address any problems they were having.
Amie Le Feuvre, 18, said: 'She goes above and beyond to make sure everyone is happy and it's the small things she does for each of us that really makes her special.'
Chloe Khaira, 18, said Dr Mitchell had been there to help her when she needed guidance.
'I had a rough start to Year 12, with confusion about what I wanted to do with my life and this led to a huge amount of stress and anxiety,' she said
'When Dr Mitchell realised this was happening, she managed to bring my life into perspective and made the rest of my year so much better.'
Amy Bould, 18, added: 'She's like a big sister, always there when you're sad and amazing at giving advice.'
While her students were keen to praise Dr Mitchell's impact outside the classroom, Kathryn Lewis, 18, said her passion for teaching also helped to engage her students in the classroom.
'Dr Mitchell cares so much for her students,' she said.
'She teaches with a passion that makes the subject so enjoyable, and she always makes the lessons interesting.'
