He has been nominated for the Overcoming Adversity award, sponsored by the College of Further Education.

The 22-year-old has just completed the Prince's Trust Team programme with the Youth Commission.

'Prior to the programme, Adam was extremely anxious and lacked confidence and self-esteem,' said nominator Joe Charlesworth, Prince's Trust coordinator and team leader.

'He felt he had no chance of getting a job. Throughout the 12 weeks of the programme Adam grew in confidence and started to see the skills he had.

'He started to take the lead within the group of young people, ensuring everyone was fully involved and their skills were utilised.'

Adam was volunteering with the Ron Short Centre – he is now thriving there.

He completed two weeks of work experience with the Sports Commission and decided to volunteer there for experience.

Through the Prince's Trust he has secured a development award which will allow him to complete the FA level one coaching badge in September.

'Adam has secured himself employment at Port Soif kiosk and the MFA Bowl, which enables him to bring in his own income while volunteering,' said Mr Charlesworth.

He has also been offered the opportunity to be Guernsey's first Young Ambassador for the Prince's Trust programmes. After training for this in September, he will support the Youth Commission and trust programmes in the Bailiwick.
