'Consider tidal option as well as Fab Link' projects
ALDERNEY WILDLIFE TRUST has backed calls to have both the proposed new cable link and tidal energy projects considered in tandem, so the combined environmental impacts of the schemes can be assessed.
If it goes ahead, the France-Alderney-Britain project will create an electrical interconnector underwater and underground between Menuel on the Cotentin peninsula to near Exeter via Alderney.
It is also seen as key for any hopes of Alderney developing and exporting tidal power.
AWT examined the Fab Link plans with the help of independent environmental consultants in Cornwall. They produced their response as part of the public consultation ahead of a planning application.
The trust identifies several parts of the Fab Link proposal which its consultants believed showed a 'lack of detail' and 'lack of clarity', and weaknesses in the current planning system.
