LARGE crowds turned out to attend Remembrance Sunday services across the island yesterday.

Hundreds stood in front of the Smith Street War Memorial to mark the two-minute silence at 11am, marked by the firing of a cannon.

Royal British Legion Guernsey branch president Bob Place said he was pleased so many people had got involved.

'It was lovely,' he said. 'There seemed to be more people today. More people want to support these events.'

The Lt-Governor, Vice Admiral Sir Ian Corder, laid the first wreath, in front of a parade of local dignitaries, which included Jurats and uniformed organisations.
