Seal pup rescued off Alderney
A GREY seal pup which is only a few days old will continue to receive round-the-clock care after being rescued in Alderney on Monday.
'Poppy' survived the first night in intensive care at the GSPCA and was examined by a vet yesterday.
Alderney Animal Welfare Society called the GSPCA on Monday after the white-coated seal pup had been spotted with no mother in sight.
Speaking yesterday, GSPCA manager Steve Byrne said the pup was 'showing good signs but it is very, very early days'.
'This is the first grey seal pup of this breeding season and is very early, in fact the earliest and youngest we have had.
'In the last five years we have rescued, rehabilitated and released five grey seal pups locally.'
He said it was doing all it can to help the very poorly animal.
