Twelve fact and fiction writers will talk at the three-day event, which will this year see the historical theme broadened to incorporate fantasy, whodunnits and romance.

Among the line up is Joyce Meader, who will speak about the importance of knitting on the home front, and lead a soldier's sock knitting workshop, well known medieval writer Elizabeth Chadwick, who will talk about Eleanor of Aquitaine and Anna Sebba, Wallis Simpson's first female biographer. One of the UK's leading literary agents will present a talk on his biography of spy Guy Burgess and lead a seminar on getting published, while Dr Jason Monaghan, director of Guernsey Museums, will examine the effect of the First World War on Guernsey through his novel Glint of Light on Broken Glass.

Alderney's 'boutique' festival is gaining wider recognition in the writing world and this year founder Isobel Picornell was in the happy position of having authors' publicists approach her to showcase their authors. The Alderney Literary Festival is the only festival to have been made an associate member of the Historical Writers' Association.

The Alderney Literary Festival runs from Friday 24 to Sunday 26 March. Visit www.alderneyliterarytrust.com for tickets.
