It was announced today that he will be taking on the job in September, as well as becoming the new Rector of St Helier.

Jersey has had a difficult time due to a dispute between the Bishop of Winchester and the then-Dean of Jersey over the handling of a sexual abuse complaint.

It led to the islands moving to be under the Bishop of Dover.

Rev. Keirle said he would be focusing on the future when he takes on the post.

'There has been a lot of upheaval, but at the same time there has been the chance to engage afresh with the mainland church and we can now look forward to the flourishing of the church in Jersey,' he said.

'I am looking forward to working with the clergy and lay clergy in a new chapter for Jersey.'
