Mr Frost has been at the hotel for 20 years and said it’s time for a ‘change of direction’.

The hotel as we know it will cease trading after Sunday lunch on 29 October.

The future of the building is unknown and Randall’s, the brewery which owns it, declined to comment further.

‘I need a bit more time for myself, with my son, with my partner. I’ve been here 20 years and it’s hard work and it’s getting harder and harder.’

The decision to close up was made earlier this year and Mr Frost is looking forward to the time off.

‘I’m going to take three or four months off, come back in the new year and see where it takes me really.

‘I’m not actively looking for anything at the moment, but if something came up or something took my interest I’d have to consider it, but not for the moment.’
