Guernsey Police forensic officers made the discovery during a detailed examination of the vehicle.

‘Specialist officers found what we believe at this stage to be parts of skeletal remains in the driver’s seat,’ said a police spokesman.

‘This is as yet unconfirmed and further forensic tests are being carried out.

‘Should forensic tests confirm the presence of human skeletal parts, we are at this stage keeping an open mind about the potential direction of the investigation,’ said a spokesman.

‘If anyone has any information which may assist our enquiries, they are asked to contact CID on 725111. Information can also be given anonymously via the Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111.’

The force is also appealing for information about a man, Mikus Alps, 33, who has been missing since the early hours of Monday.

Mr Alps was last seen at a residential address in St Saviour’s.

He is from Latvia, but resident in Guernsey, and is described as being around 5ft 9in. tall with fair skin, blue eyes, short brown hair and a short beard. He also has distinctive tattoos on his arms and back.

The remains were found during examination of a Volvo estate or a vehicle of a similar type which was found in a field.

An image was released by the police on Tuesday appealing for the owner to come forward.
