Ambrose Wynne-James, 27, of La Grande Marche, King’s Road, St Peter Port, admitted importing a total of 153.5 grams of the class B substance when he appeared in the Royal Court.

He also admitted possessing the prohibited weapon, having denied it initially.

Crown advocate Chris Dunford said the defendant had not been prepared to accept evidence from an accredited police firearms officer that the device was unlawful and had put the prosecution to proof.

He maintained it was a toy he had bought from a gift stall in Thailand two years before.

He changed his plea when the words ‘stun gun’ were substituted for ‘electronic shock device’ on the indictment.

A sentence of 18 months in prison was imposed for the cannabis offence plus one month, concurrent, for the weapon matter.

Forfeiture and destruction of both the drugs and the weapon was ordered.
