Permission was previously granted to convert the property into nine flats.
A subsequent application to demolish it and build 14 flats and three houses was rejected by planners, but now developer the Infinity Group is reapplying to create 14 flats, rather than just nine.
‘The existing planning permission was going to expire shortly,’ said managing director Paul Nobes, and that was why work had started before a decision on the latest application had been given.
He said that they had held a meeting with residents to discuss the new application for 14 flats. ‘On the whole we were really happy with the meeting,’ he said.
The demolition work is set to conclude next week.
