England recorded a 2-0 win over Sweden on Saturday afternoon, thanks to headed goals from Harry Maguire and Dele Alli.

At the other end of the pitch, goalkeeper Jordan Pickford made some fine saves as England moved to within one match of a final against either Belgium or France.

A raucous crowd at The Rockmount public bar broke into song well before the final whistle, as they celebrated England’s commanding performance.

‘It was a good match, England deserved to win,’ said Tom De La Rue. ‘It’s coming home – we’ve got a solid team and a good manager.’

Ben Munro was confident that the national side can go all the way for the first time since 1966.

‘I would love it if we could win it, I have got all the faith in England. This is the year.’

Jared Caine said England had enjoyed a dream run to this point.

‘It’s the easiest route to the semi-final we have had since 1990,’ he said.

Of their potential opponents in the final, Sam Totty hoped England will come up against Belgium, who beat England 1-0 when the two met in the group stage.

‘I would love it to be Belgium for the revenge,’ he said.

‘We came here to watch the Belgium and Colombia matches and now the Sweden match,’ added Mr Caine. ‘We’ll be back for the next match.’

England will now face Croatia in the semi finals on Wednesday evening after the European nation knocked out hosts Russia on penalties.
