The half-term event will take place each day until Friday and aims to entertain children of all ages with dinosaur-themed activates including meeting Vera the Velociraptor, visiting the Timewarp, exhibition displays and making something to take home.
Access and learning manager at Guernsey Museums Jo Dowding said the children taking part were learning about dinosaurs by looking at their teeth.
‘We will have a different theme each day and today’s is teeth,’ she said.
‘They are looking at some different examples of real dinosaur teeth which haven’t come from Guernsey, and making their own versions out of hardening clay.’
Visitors to the museum can also enjoy a sculpture made by local artist, Mark Cook, located in the Timewarp area.
An ever-changing small room located at the museum, this year Timewarp is inspired by Jurassic Park and features a laboratory and a small Jeep to sit in.
‘The raptor has actually been here since February,’ said Mrs Dowding.
‘Mark made it in his kitchen. He is a fantastic model maker.
‘The one he’s made is modelled on the ones from the Jurassic Park film from the 1990s.
‘The idea of what a dinosaur looked like changes from decade to decade, and we now think they had feathers.
‘Of course, there were plenty of mistakes, but why let the truth get in the way of a good film.
‘It makes a good opportunity for us, as we have highlighted some of these points within the Timewarp area.
‘We try to make it suitable for adults and children.
‘With dinosaurs it is so universally engaging, it makes a really fun topic to do and the fact that no human has ever actually seen a dinosaur makes it more intriguing.’
Many children were enjoying the displays and playing with the various themed toys.
Tayen Littlewood, 6, was wearing some dinosaur claw gloves, and said his favourite dinosaur was a Tyrannosaurus.
Amy Robert, 7 and Abi Robert, 6, were playing in the child-size Jurassic Park Jeep.
Abi said her favourite dinosaur was a Velociraptor.
n Dino Days is open daily until Friday 2 November, 11am-3pm at Candie.
Normal admission price applies to the Museum. The activities are aimed at children five years and over, but all are welcome.
