The new Flybe service to Heathrow will be operated by 78-seat Bombardier Q400 aircraft seven days a week, departing Guernsey at 2.40pm arriving at Heathrow at 3.45pm and departing Heathrow at 5.20pm arriving in Guernsey at 6.25pm.

It will provide the island with a connection to London’s largest airport for the first time since 1998 when Air UK axed the route.

When asked about the level of subsidy provided for the service, Economic Development confirmed that there was support, but said the level was commercially confidential.

This is the sixth new air route launched since the Open Skies policy went live in September.

Economic Development committee president Charles Parkinson said: ‘We are delighted that Flybe is announcing the launch of this new daily service and prestigious new route. Worldwide connectivity through a major international hub is an important achievement of one of the committees top strategic objectives, and we would like to thank Flybe for their commitment to Guernsey, and to developing Guernsey’s strategic air links.’

He said the new Heathrow service would not only provide much improved connectivity for Guernsey residents and visitors, but will help in the development of the island’s economy and raising Guernsey’s international reputation and profile.

Heathrow Chief Executive, John Holland-Kaye added: ‘We are delighted to welcome a Guernsey service back at Heathrow after a 20-year absence.

‘Flybe’s new service will be a huge opportunity to encourage more international tourists to visit this beautiful and unique island, whilst linking Guernsey residents directly to the world.’

Chief commercial officer at Flybe Roy Kinnear said the company was delighted to provide Guernsey with this connectivity and thanked stakeholders for their support in enabling this new service.

It will be operated by 78-seat Bombardier Q400 aircraft. The service will operate seven days a week, departing Guernsey at 2.40pm arriving at Heathrow at 3.45pm and departing Heathrow at 5.20pm arriving in Guernsey at 6.25pm.
