Winter Wonderland set to bring some Christmas magic
WINTER WONDERLAND will be back this year, bringing Christmas magic to islanders in December.
The spirit of Christmas will return to St Saviour’s with new title sponsor Specsavers for its 23rd year, partnering with the Lions Club of Guernsey and Cancer Research UK Guernsey branch to host the annual event.
Specsavers co-founder Dame Mary Perkins said they were delighted to be supporting the event.
‘We are looking forward to introducing some exciting new elements and adding some extra Christmas sparkle which we hope will be enjoyed by many islanders young and old,’ she said.
Taking place on Wednesday 4 December, the popular spectacle is expected to attract more than 3,000 visitors to the grounds of the Bachmanns’ family home.
Cancer Research UK Guernsey chairman Bryan Lean said it would be a festive experience for families to enjoy.
‘It will be jolly good fun for everyone, while also raising money for charity,’ he said.
‘Events such as this are great to be involved in because it’s both good fun and raises money.
‘We’ve got the La Houguette School choir performing, as well as a jazz band, which I’m part of, on the saxophone – with a new sponsor, it’ll be full of surprises.’
There will be a Christmas-themed marquee, sponsored by Skipton International, filled with a variety of stalls, including hot food and drinks, a bottle stall and glow products for children. New this year are stands from Iris and Dora, Mazzouk and Waffle & Co.
Lions Club of Guernsey president Rob Holder said they were excited to be working with Specsavers to help organise Winter Wonderland this year.
‘The event not only signals the start of Christmas for many islanders but also raises essential funds for those in need at this time of year,’ he said.
All money raised at the event will be split evenly between the two charities.
n Tickets will be priced at £6 for adults and £2 for 3-12 year-olds for Winter Wonderland, which takes place between 6pm and 8.30pm on 4 December.
They will be on sale from Monday 4 November at Stan Brouard, Earlswood Garden Centre, Creasey’s at the Le Bordage and the Bridge stores, Shoestring, Woodies at the Le Pollet and Bordeaux kiosk, St Peter’s Post Office, Forest Stores and the Cancer Research shop in Le Pollet.
Specsavers will be providing free buses from the company’s car park to shuttle people back and forth to the venue.
