James Meller, managing director of Rocquette Cider, said: ‘My initial reaction was how great it is to have our cider, all the way from Guernsey, on offer to such a large customer base.
‘The fact that two Guernsey companies have got together to market Rocquette Cider across the UK is an enormous achievement for our little island.
‘We have been trying for a number of years to break into the UK retail market in a serious way and the solution was sitting on our doorstep.’
Restaurant supply chain manager for Blue Diamond Alan Gisbourne said: ‘Given the history of Blue Diamond as a fruit export company it only seemed natural to partner with Rocquette Cider and continue the tradition, but in a somewhat modern way.’
Blue Diamond works with a number of local businesses to stock Guernsey product across its chain of UK stores – including Channel Island Seaweed’s slug repellent and Guernsey Seaweed, stocking its natural fertiliser.
Alan Roper, managing director of Blue Diamond, stressed the importance of sourcing locally when it can and providing a platform for local businesses that might otherwise find it difficult to branch out.
‘We are always open to explore local product and call on local businesses to approach us,’ he added.
