A Law Enforcement spokesman said they were currently awaiting formal identification but understand that there would be speculation.
Guernsey man, Matthew Bourgaize, 29, was last seen on the afternoon of 11 January and a search for him has been ongoing.
'We have informed the family of Mr Bourgaize and ask that their privacy is respected at this time,' said the spokesman.
'We will make a further announcement once formal identification has taken place, which will be in the coming days.'
