FOUR new symptoms which could indicate someone should be tested for Covid-19 have been added to the original list of three.

They are muscle ache (fatigue, exhaustion), headache (sinus pain, pain around eyes), loss of smell/taste and sore throat.

The symptoms given before were fever (high temperature, rigors, chills, can’t get warm), shortness of breath and/or chest tightness and continuous new cough.

Director of Public Health Dr Nicola Brink said these additional symptoms have been added as a result of continued assessment of diagnostic information available from cases studied locally and from research further afield.

‘It is very important we share this latest information with our communities so that we catch as many potential cases of Covid-19 at the earliest opportunity,’ she said.

‘This will help us to identify community seeding of the virus, find and quarantine cases and provide them with the appropriate care and support.

‘We can then contact trace to reduce onward transmission of the virus.

‘If you, or household members are showing signs of any, or a combination of these symptoms, please contact the coronavirus helpline or your GP to seek further advice.’

Jescc, Primary and Secondary Care are aware of the changes and are now working to the updated criteria.
