Organised by Standing Up For Guernsey's Environment, a group of environmentally conscious individuals, at least 70 people took a stand to show their support.
'I hope there will be heavy support for the plan,' group spokesperson Rosie Dorey said.
'Although the plan doesn't go quite far enough, it is a start. It is the very least we can do, and a baseline we can work on.
'There has been a seismic shift toward climate change and biodiversity loss, which is exciting. We knew it was a problem 40 years ago, but since then the evidence has been firmed up. In the late 70s even fossil fuel companies understood the dangers we face, but it was the lobbyists at the end of the day who decided. If we acted then, then we would be in a very different place.'
Rally-goers are taking notice of voting intentions while considering electoral candidates.
'Climate policy needs to be written in law, with reduction targets aiming for net zero earlier than 2050, which is far too late. We need education so people realise the critical nature of it, and to work together to find positive solutions,' she said.
Transport contributed 28.6% of greenhouse gases emitted in 2018 according to the Annual Greenhouse Gas Bulletin, with waste second at 23.7% and on-island power generation third at 16.9%.
'Already we reduced 30% of our emissions by linking with France's renewable power sources. Our economy grew simultaneously, and lifestyle saw minimal changes.'
Private car ownership is the next hurdle.
Ms Dorey continued: 'It doesn't mean we will lose anything. If we improve our active travel options we improve the community's health. Our population has exploded. Now our species encroach on areas of zoonotic diseases, including Covid, which otherwise would be left to wildlife.'
'Covid awakened latent environmentalism in a lot of people- the silver lining to all the tragedy it brought. People now realise climate change cannot be sidelined.
'We are utterly dependent on our environment. We are a part of it, not separate. We are at a critical junction where we need to take action with real purpose.'
