One of the first to take to the chair was customer advisor Mike Hawdon, who got his chest waxed.
Donations made for going hairless went to the GSPCA.
‘I’ve got quite a high pain threshold, but the longer, thicker bits in the middle nicked a bit,’ he said after the wax.
It was his first time having his chest waxed, and, while he did not think he would have it done again, he said it was a good way to raise money for a local charity.
‘I’ve always supported animal charities and have sponsored animals in the past so thought the GSPCA would be a good one to benefit from this,’ he said.
Mr Hawdon was one of three Boots employees who lost some of their hair yesterday morning and a further three joined them as they had relatives who work in the high street branch too.
Originally they were going to face the clippers in April, but when lockdown was enforced they decided to wait it out until they could all be back in the shop together safely.
Gareth Davies and Ezra Le Page decided to forego any haircuts until the big shave, so had around four months’ worth of un-trimmed hair to part with.
Mr Le Page was raising money for the Guernsey Alzheimer’s Association because his grandfather has dementia and the charity has been incredibly supportive of his gran.
‘I’ve never had such a short haircut before,’ he said with a freshly bald head.
‘It feels cold.’
He said the closer the clippers got, the more scared he felt, but it was all for a good cause and he had a beaming smile afterwards.
Three of those who were either shaved or waxed, Steven Carre, Ben Allen and JP Hunnisett, decided to donate their funds to the Men’s Shed.
Chairman Mark Smith said it was great to have people supporting the charity, even if they did not use the services themselves.
‘The past six months have been really difficult without any fundraising events and we rely entirely on fundraising and donations.
‘It’s great these three guys wanted to support the Shed and understood what it is we are trying to do for the community,’ he said.
