Barbecue owner in plea for cover which blew away

A WOMAN desperate to get her barbecue cover back is appealing to neighbours in St Peter’s to keep an eye out in case the winds have carried it into one of their gardens.

The Outdoor Chef-branded barbecue cover, brand new two weeks ago at £70, is thought to have been blown off Gwen Wilson’s barbecue by high winds last week.

She took to Facebook to ask her friends if it had happened to land in any of their gardens.

‘People were laughing at me, I had friends calling up from Scotland, England and even America saying it hadn’t quite reached them yet,’ she said.

‘But no one from Guernsey responded, which is why I wanted to get in touch with the Guernsey Press to see if I could reach more people who might have seen it or wondered what it was.’

Having searched all over her garden and next door, Mrs Wilson’s neighbours have even been patrolling the street on which she lives to see if the wind carried it further.

The road in question is the long road between the Airport and St Peter’s food hall.

‘It just disappeared overnight,’ she said.

‘Once the wind gets under it, it could go for miles, and I know it sounds ridiculous, but I really want it back.’

Without it, the Outdoor Chef barbecue gets badly weathered and will start to rust and disintegrate.
